Homes For Our Troops - One Man's Vision
Building Accessible Homes And Adapting Existing Homes For Accessibility
By Jan Morgavan
(December 24, 2006) - I remember it vividly and will never forget the clip last summer on one of the national evening news programs here in the US. It was one of those I'm just passing through moments when the television grabbed my attention. I saw an American soldier sitting in a wheelchair in his military uniform. He had just returned from Iraq with serious injuries. Behind the soldier was a new accessible home was being built for him by an organization, Homes For Our Troops.
During the clip, they interviewed, John Gonsalves, the President and Founder of Homes For Our Troops. In 2003, John left a 20 year career in construction to form this new non-profit organization dedicated to supporting our injured service men and women by building accessible homes or modifying existing homes for accessibility. This was such a compelling story of the inspiration of one that has touched so many lives.
So, for John Gonsalves and Homes For Our Troops and all of those that are involved in the organization's work, a great big HIGH FIVE goes out to you.
